DIABETES CONTROL

Controlling diabetes is quite difficult. It requires strict diet, exercise, medication, and change in lifestyle. Also constant monitoring and attention is necessary because the smallest infraction can make blood glucose rise or drop. Sometimes despite all the precautions done, blood sugar level remains erratic. The problem is that, if diabetes persisted it can affect some internal organs, or may lead to other diseases or complications. But definitely, due to advances in science and medicine through research, treatment of diabetes has improved. Various kinds of drugs and therapies are available for control and treatment. Recent findings explain that beta-cells found in the pancreas are responsible in producing insulin. If these are destroyed it will result in the increase of blood sugar. Due to this, a drug was developed to improve beta cells mass and insulin sensitivity. It is called DPP4 inhibitor, this drug increases the ability of the cells in the pancreas to appropriately sense and respond to blood sugar.

IMMUNIZATION IS NEEDED FOR YOUNG AND OLDS

This is also called vaccination. It is usually administered to infants and children, men and women. It is given to protect people against viral and bacterial infections and other serious illness. The vaccination helps boost the body’s immune system. Some of these vaccines needed a booster shot after 10 years. While some booster shots are given during adulthood. This being done because the vaccinations also fade and will no longer be as effective as the new one. As people aged the immune system weakens, so like children older people need to boost the immune system for defense against diseases. The benefits of immunization include the prevention of polio, measles, tetanus, chicken pox, hepatitis, flu, and many more. Contagious diseases remain to be a major concern worldwide. By having the vaccination, bacteria and viruses that attack the body to create diseases will be prevented. It could also minimize or prevent the spread of diseases to other people.

NEW BORN SCREENING

New born screening is the process of testing infants for serious medical conditions before they are symptomatic. In this procedure, newborns are screened on their second or third day of their life, after the baby have eaten and metabolized milk. In some countries the newborn screening has been regarded as one of the public health prevention programs. In this system, the new born baby is identified for certain genetic, metabolic, or infectious conditions. This is being done because parents can pass along a gene for a disorder, so it is important to detect it earlier for the baby to have a better chance of living normally. With the identification of the innate disorder, babies with the condition could be placed on dietary control early to prevent mental retardation. From a desire to create something for the benefit of many, newborn screening has become a reality for the government and further evolved into a responsibility of the public health system.
